Today we will learn about internship at a textile industry by Atulya Gupta!

 

IF: Please tell us something about yourself. Where and what are you studying currently?

AG: My name is Atulya Gupta. I am basically from Kolkata have been born and brought up there, pursued my schooling from the same. Moreover, I have now taken fashion designing as my career choice and I am studying at Pearl Academy – Jaipur.

IF: Give us details about your internship – process of application, stipend, duration, and place?

AG: I had done my internship at Karomi Crafts n Textiles based in Kolkata. The process of application was sending the CV and portfolio on the email id mentioned on their site. the stipend paid was Rs 7500 per month for the duration of 6 months.

IF: How competitive was the selection process? According to you, which qualities have helped you have an edge in the selection process? Also, what were the key things that selectors were looking for?

AG: I am not quite sure about the competition I faced however if there are a few who opt to intern there, a process of the interview might be followed. I think my portfolio was a major plus point for the selection and also my love for handlooms. The selectors were basically looking for someone who would combine their fabulous textiles and a great pattern to construct garments.

IF: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period?

AG: I had been assigned responsibilities during my internship period. Majorly handling the pattern master getting samples stitched and altered. Working with the designer of the company in developing samples. Using the waste textiles for creating jewelry and bags and various more.

IF: Can you give us interesting details about your experience – good and bad? (It could be something like the amazing location of your internship, the friends you made for life, a bad senior, accommodation given in case of an outstation internship and something along those lines.)

AG: I was always given a chance to explore and do something creative
All my questions were answered and never ignored
Eating with my colleagues was a complete family environment

IF: How do you think this internship has helped you grow? In other words, what are your key takeaways from the internship?

AG: this internship has enhanced my knowledge about handlooms to another level. Moreover, since I was mostly assigned responsibilities to be carried out on my own I grew a lot more confident and bolder in taking decisions.

IF: Has this internship had a decision altering impact on your career? Do you now think of a different future path as compared to before doing the internship?

AG: Definitely, I now want to study more about textiles and am planning to continue studying further with textile designing as my majors.

IF: Lastly, do you have any words of advice or caution for students aspiring for this internship and reading this piece?

AG: If you love handlooms you should definitely wish to apply to this firm.
