We, at Internfeel, want to bring out all kinds of internship experiences across various streams and sectors. In our attempt to do so, we also would like to bring bad experiences into light so our other readers are aware and make a well-informed choice.
Today we have with us yet another person who has been disappointed with the internship at Livon. She would like to remain anonymous and call herself MK.
InternFeel (IF): Please tell us something about yourself. Where are you studying currently? What are your hobbies and interests?
Anonymus (MK): I’m doing bachelors in journalism and mass communication. My hobbies are cooking, singing and writing. I want to enjoy my life to the fullest. And I’m an easy going person. At times, I’m very emotional. I always want to happy so that others around me are also happy.
IF: Tell us something about your internship experience?
MK: One of my friend texted me about this internship and she told me to give it a chance. I agreed and then they added me to a whatsapp group. It was there I came to know about this lady Ms. Shubhi Garg. She was very rude and she used to make personal remark on others. I would like to give an example, there was a girl who asked Shubhi to excuse her from the induction meet and she asked her for proof of unavailability. When she complained about this on the group Shubhi should have behaved in a professional manner instead she made personal remarks, shared screenshots and stuff. Then we were supposed to attend the induction meet, for which she decided Cappacino blast in Aishbag, Lucknow. Many of us complained that we are hostellers and this place is very far, again she gave very rude replies to everyone. She was very self-obsessed person and she never heard anyone out and also she used insult us. And she chose this place for her own benefit because she was social media manager of that cafe. We attended the induction meet, they promised us to give many opportunities and some vouchers as well and they explained it. When we came back and they again form clusters.
Some of us were unable to do the entry and stuff because it was very complicated and not worth the things we were getting back from them.
And if someone used to ask anything to her, she would give very rude replies
Finally I got a migraine attack and I told her about my health. I even apologized to her which she was extremely insensitive towards and then I decided to quit.
IF: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period?
MK: They told us to collect sachets from Shubhi and distribute it among 100 other girls and wanted us to make data entries for the feedback and also the contact details of them. But it was very difficult since there were so many girls from same place were the part of the internship. It was difficult because you have to stay in touch with that person, to whom you are distributing the livon sachet, and every girl’s target 100 other girls and the other intern cannot repeat that person.
IF: What all things, incentives, perks were promised by them, formally and informally? What were the terms and conditions before joining?
MK: They had promised a certificate. They even promised to give vouchers on the basis of weekly performance and if they will like our work they will give us an internship and chance to work in their office. But in my knowledge, no one got any vouchers or gift hampers or even an internship with them.
IF: Were all these promises verbal or written?
MK: They were verbal. I left the internship before signing any consent forms and stuff like that.
IF: Lastly, do you have any words of advice or caution for students aspiring for this internship and reading this piece?
MK: Ya sometimes it’s not about good or bad, it’s all about experience. At least I can tell people what bad experience is. And there was no particular thing that I learnt from them. Please be aware of such people who just want to use you to fulfill your own purposes. Try to learn that nothing is free in this world. Everything has a price but you are invaluable to yourself. I won’t stop you from anything go ahead, chase your dreams, be fearless and be cautious.
We would like to thank MK for her courage to stand up against injustice at whatever small level. We wish her good luck!
