SRK: I did a 10 weeks research internship in University of Padova, Italy. I was also given stipend that was quite sufficient to cover the living expenses during that period.

SRK: There is no formal application for this. I mailed the professor describing my research interests and then Skype interview was scheduled after 1 month of my initial mail. During the interview, I was asked about my specific interests and about my previous experience in my areas of Interest.

IF: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period?
SRK: My project was based on Hydrological Evaluation of Satellite Rainfall Estimates and it was a multidisciplinary research involving Hydrological Modeling in conjunction with Geo-Informatics.

IF: Can you give us interesting details about your experience – good and bad? (It could be something like the amazing location of your internship, the friends you made for life, a bad senior, accommodation given in case of an outstation internship and something along those lines.)
SRK: I stayed in ESU Guest House (Generally given for Erasmus students), where there people from different countries but very few Indians in Padova. There were two Indians living in an apartment outside the campus and they helped me a lot in cooking and in arranging the things from the supermarket. They have also provided me with the bicycle for my stay. Apart From this, my supervisor and the researchers in the lab helped me in every possible way, right from booking the accommodation to booking the tickets for weekend trips with all the information required to go on trips to Venice, Rome, etc.

IF: How do you think this internship has helped you grow? In other words, what are your key takeaways from the internship?
