Internship Hercules HoistIn this interview we have Shashank Pandey, with his internship experience at Hercules Hoist. Let’s learn more.

InternFeel: Please tell us something about yourself. Where and what are you studying currently? 

Shashank Pandey : This is Shashank Pandey; S.E.A.(Mechanical), pursuing my education at ViMEET!

ViMEET stands for Vishwaniketan’s institute of Management Entrepreneurship and Engineering Technology; which clearly defines what I want to study.

Its located in Dhamani village, khalapur, Raigad.

Drawing ,Sketching, and Painting is my passion; whereas, writing couplets, poems (in English and Hindi), Reading, are some addenda which I prefer doing in my free time!.

I love playing Football(Defender), Cricket (Allrounder), Kabaddi, kho-kho, and Chess.

I’ve secured many winner titles in Drawing and Painting competitions, which includes few District level ranks; a taluka level; and a National level certificate(4th rank).

Also I’ve showcased few winner trophies for Chess, R3 Exhibition , Science exhibition , and General proficiency.

IF:Give us details about your internship – process of application, stipend, duration and place?

SP: Hercules Hoists Limited was incorporated in 1962 with technical and financial collaboration from Heinrich de Fries GmbH, Germany.

The Company and its products, are more known by the leading industry brand name, INDEF : a thoughtful amalgam of India and Hadef (the brand name of Heinrich de Fries).  Today, in addition to Indef, our specific products and solutions are also available under StierICrane and I:Stacker brands.

Over the last five decades, Hercules Hoists and its brands have become synonymous with proven and robust material handling equipment, making them market leaders in the areas of their operation. They have an enviable reach pan India reach: with regional offices in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Pune, resident representatives in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad and a network of over 150 Authorised Marketing Associates and sub-dealers all over India. Their AMAs and sub-dealers have additionally developed hundreds of points of sales in every industrial area in the country.  The fame of their technology, quality and reliability has spread across borders and today their customer base has already expanded to South East Asia, SAARC nations, North and South Africa, Europe and South America.

They invest continuously in technologies for product and engineering.The Company’s manufacturing units at Khopoli and Pune are equipped with contemporary facilities and our quality systems are certified to ISO 9001:2008 standards. Hercules have also tied up with some leading names in the world of material handling technologies: ZascheSitec Handling GmbH, Germany; Planeta Hebetechnik GmbH, Germany; Varese Handling Technologies s.r.l., Italy amongst others to bring cutting edge technologies, products and solutions to their customers.

Today, their product repertoire is not only in mechanical hoists, electric chain hoists and wire rope hoists but also extends to stackers and storage and retrieval solutions, overhead cranes in the standard and extended standard range, manipulators and material handling automation solutions.

As far as application procedure is concerned there wasn’t such methodologies. Instead Professors themselves select a certain number of students having interest in doing internship and utilize their valuable holidays.

The duration of my internship was two weeks.

I learnt production of all the mentioned hoists from production department, which demanded  6 days out of 14. Remaining 6 days were distributed in Quality check department and Design department.

IF: How competitive was the selection process? According to you, which qualities have helped you have an edge in the selection process? Also, what were the key things that selectors were looking for?

SP: There was no selection process as mentioned earlier; still , if u ask me what gave me an edge over others ; It was my good academics and more importantly my behavior and conduct.

cz thts something they expect from us ; behave ourselves there in the plant, rep[resenting ViMEET. Thereby strengthening the collaborations with them.

IF: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period? 

SP: I myself produced (Assembled) all kinds of hoists produced there , myself!

This gave me real life experience of working as a worker there. I , at the same time  realized , how the quality of the product is maintained, what is the key role of Design department, how does a plant really functions, and how the orders are managed.

IF: Has this internship had a decision altering impact on your career? Do you now think of a different future path as compared to before doing the internship?

SP: No, it hasn’t ; it actually re-determined my career goals of being an Entrepreneur. Since the hard work involved ,clearly indicated the demand of physical fitness and mental resilience.

IF: Lastly, do you have any words of advice or caution for students aspiring for this internship and reading this piece?

SP: Yes , caution needs to be taken while walking through the plant! There exists many heavy components , which when not managed appropriately, would prove to be harmful.

Also I would like to advice the upcoming interns at Hercules Hoists, to utilize the addendum provided by the person at the entrance ; including the apron , visitors id card , etc.

Or else u will destroy your favorite piece of formals!! Stained with various lubricants!
