InterFeel (IF): Please tell us something about yourself. Where are you studying currently? What are your hobbies and interests?

Puneet Mishra (PM): My name is Puneet Mishra, I am currently pursuing my 5th year (Business Hons.) from Institute of Law, Nirma University.

IF: Tell us something about your internship including stipend, duration and place?

PM: My last Internship was with ARA Law, Mumbai Office. I applied for this internship by mailing my CV and cover letter at internship@aralaw.com. Pursuant to which I got a call from the office and after the telephonic interview, I received the confirmation mail. My internship was for a period of one month, i.e. from May 15th 2016 to June 15th 2016. The firm has a policy of giving stipend of Rs. 5000. The Office is situated in the 10th floor of The Capital in BKC, the office is as catchy and elegant as it can be, and gives a complete feel of a corporate law office.

Duration of the internship – 1 month

Stipend – INR 5,000

IF: How competitive was the selection process? According to you, which qualities have helped you have an edge in the selection process? Also, what were the key things that selectors were looking for?

PM: They have two level selection process, wherein in the first stage your CV is shortlisted and in the second stage a personal interview is done. I think the mail task is to get a good all round CV, as the interview is more an interaction which gives you an opportunity to express yourself better. Clarity of thoughts and precise answers are the qualities which helped me and will help others as well. The selectors were mainly focused to know that you have a fair idea of what you have written in your CV and whether or not you are aware of the basic concepts of law.

IF: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period?

PM: ARA Law specializes in core Corporate Laws, M&A, Private Equity, Real Estate, Capital Markets, Infrastructure and Baking Laws. The main tasks assigned to me in the office were legal research, drafting discussion notes, preparing legal articles, updating monthly newsletters, proof reading of documents and preparing memos. Main area of my work was in Alternate Investment Funds, Mutual Funds, Private Equity, Company Law Provisions, etc. I was also assigned a topic for presentation which I presented before all the associates (even the associates from the Bangalore office) on the last day of my internship.

IF: Can you give us interesting details about your experience – good and bad?

PM: I think the overall experience was very good, from infrastructure to work assigned. Another good thing was all the associates and inters were given the evening snacks, which gave an option to take a small break from the work.

IF: How do you think this internship has helped you grow? In other words, what are your key takeaways from the internship?

PM: The internship has helped me in not just academic front but has helped me learn the corporate culture, ability to multitask and ability to think and prioritize work assigned.

IF: Lastly, do you have any words of advice or caution for students aspiring for this internship and reading this piece?

PM: My advice is just for out station interns – get your accommodation somewhere near Bandra, with lunch facility as commuting and getting good reasonable food gets difficult sometimes.

We’s like to thank Piyush for this interview and wish him all the luck for the future!
