Internship Experience | Pawan Kumar | Design Daftar Media | Graphic Designer

Today we have with us Pawan Kumar who is pursuing his Bachelors in Designing from NIFT, Kolkata. He talks about his internship as graphic designer.

InternFeel (IF): Please tell us something about yourself. Where are you studying currently?

Pawan Kumar (PK): I am Pawan Kumar, from Ranchi, Jharkhand, and I am a final year student of NIFT-Kolkata, completing my B.Des in Fashion Communication department.

IF: Tell us something about your internship including stipend, duration and place?

PK: I joined the internship as Graphic Designer. Through my design portfolio and a personal interview I was selected for the internship. It was an unpaid internship. The duration of the internship was 15 days.  The office of Design Daftar Media was in Park street, Kolkata.

IF: How competitive was the selection process? According to you, which qualities have helped you have an edge in the selection process? Also, what were the key things that selectors were looking for?

PK: The competition was not actually tough because I had applied for a short term project and was selected just after the interview.

They were looking for someone who can design as well as research. The knowledge of different software and other qualifications made it easy for me to get selected.

IF: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period?

PK: With Design Daftar, I had to prepare a three month of social media forecasting for a wedding and a corporate company. I had to research and prepare contents for the social media platforms and also for the brochures. I had to design a brochure for the company as well as research for artworks.

IF: Can you give us interesting details about your experience – good and bad?

PK: During my internship with Design Daftar, I made good friends who were seniors. I was treated like a family member in the office and was never uncomfortable in the office. The best part was the travelling I had to do while going to the office. In winters after a hot shower you have to just sit in a bus on the window seat and watch the early morning view with warm sunlight and reach office with many acquaintances in mind and a cherished mind.

IF: How do you think this internship has helped you grow? In other words, what are your key takeaways from the internship?

PK: I learnt about how a design studio works, how to deal with different clients, the importance of the task given and the maintenance of deadline. A complete package of a well maintained life was given to me as learning.

IF: Has this internship had a decision altering impact on your career? Do you now think of a different future path as compared to before doing the internship?

PK: After this internship, I had developed more keen interest in graphic designing and publication designing. I was more focused towards my career and future scopes of job as a designer.

We’d like to thank Pawan for giving us the interview and wish him all the luck for the future.
