InterFeel (IF): Please tell us something about yourself. Where are you studying currently? What are your hobbies and interests?
Khusbhoo Damakia (KD): My name is Khushboo Damakia and I am a law student. I am currently studying in the second year of the three-year law course at Government Law College, Mumbai which is affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
IF: Tell us something about your internship including stipend, duration and place?
KD: I got a chance to intern with ARA Law, Mumbai office. Since the firm specializes in corporate law, research work was given on Mergers, Alternate Investment Funds and Company Law mainly. I also got a chance to assist in an elaborate research on the Copyrights Law, which was something, which was a first of its kind in India.

IF: Tell us about the procedure to apply for the internship. Who all are eligible to apply for this internship?
KD: I procured this internship through the Placement Cell of my college, where after reviewing my CV, a telephonic interview was conducted and I was intimated about my selection via a call. However, in order to get an internship at ARA Law, one may his/her CV along with a covering letter at internship@aralaw.com. Once they review the CV, you will receive a call for telephonic interview and on the basis of your interview they will confirm your internship.
IF: Let’s talk about how competitive the selection process was. Which qualities helped you to have edge in the selection process? According to you, what were the key things that selectors were looking for?
KD: I am not aware about the number of people who had applied for the internship. At the time of my telephonic interview, I was thoroughly questioned on my knowledge of commercial laws and was asked to elaborate on research conducted by me in my previous internship. The things I believe that the selectors were looking for and my qualities that might have given me the edge would be that I was very well prepared for my interview and answered every question with confidence and did not answer any question I was not sure of.
IF: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period?
KD: The firm specializes in corporate law, research work was given on Mergers, Alternate Investment Funds and Company Law mainly. I was asked to conduct a conclusive research on FDI in e-commerce. I also asked to do an elaborate research into the Copyrights Law, which was something, which was a first of its kind in India.
IF: What impact do you think this internship had on your intellectual capabilities and mindset? In broader terms, what are your gains and takeaways?
KD: I have learned a lot about the Foreign Direct Investment regulations as well as some more commercial laws. However my main takeaway was how to conduct myself better to derive complete benefit from an internship. One of my key takeaways was realizing to sometimes skip the hierarchy in order to get your job done.
IF: What are your future plans after this internship and how much impact this internship will have on it?
KD: This internship has had a great impact on me in terms of the knowledge I have gained with respect to law as well as work place conduct. My future plans, as of now, include completing my LL.B., Companies Secretary course and interning at some more places before I complete my last year as a law student.
