InterFeel (IF): Please tell us something about yourself. Where are you studying currently? What are your hobbies and interests?
Anand Raja (AR): I am Anand Raja, pursuing by B.E. from Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology (ACCET), Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. I am one among the aspirants who did not get opportunity to do Engineering in IITs & eager in doing research in my field (EEE).
IF: Tell us something about your internship including stipend, duration and place?
AR: It is the Summer Fellowship Programme, 2016 at IIT-Madras. There are two internship programme at IIT-Madras – summer and winter. The summer internship programme, notification is usually published on the IIT-Madras website in the month of January-February, for doing internship in June-July.
Duration of the internship – 2 months
Stipend – INR 10,000 + INR 9,000 as accommodation and dining charges
IF: Let’s talk about how competitive the selection process was. Which qualities helped you to have edge in the selection process? According to you, what were the key things that selectors were looking for?
AR: The selection criteria is wholly determined by the professor who willing to take summer interns. Mostly CGPA and Statement of Purpose, makes the difference, the latter worked for me.
IF: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period?
AR: I was allotted a project on TDM implementation in Omnet++, which can be used in M.Tech., labs for simulation purpose & Analysing STDM. For which we need to specialise on two things – Software part : Omnet++ & Programming part: C++ (used in Omnet++)
IF: What impact do you think this internship had on your intellectual capabilities and mindset? In broader terms, what are your gains and takeaways?
AR: Of course, it re-defined the approach which I had for Engineering, ‘I saw programming as a Subject, but they took it as a Tool’, all the books that you study, the pdfs that you read are result oriented. They wanted you to read those Standard books, because you can do it better the projects.
IF: What are your future plans after this internship and how much impact this internship will have on it?
AR: The certificate and exposure that I gained would be helpful in my career. The IITs’ certificate is highly valid, both in your resume and your application for abroad universities. They valid this to a greater extent provided if we have a letter of recommendation from the guide.
We’d like to wish Anand all the very best for the future!
