Ekta BHEL

InternFeel: Please tell us something about yourself. Where and what are you studying currently?

Ekta Yadav: Hii, This is EKTA YADAV, I am a third-year student, pursuing B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Mody University of Science and Technology, Lakshmangarh, Sikar, Rajasthan.

InternFeel: Give us details about your internship – the process of application, stipend, duration and place? How should a student apply for the same?

Ekta Yadav: Well, as an engineering student there is a fantasy about getting a chance to go and work in core companies.  By that, we can learn what we have studied theoretically and so as I had lots of excitement for this internship, for experiencing it. I applied at BHEL and done my internship at BHEL, JHANSI (famous for manufacturing transformers and locomotive engines) after, 4th semester i.e., after my 2nd year, in summer vacations. The application process is quite simple, fill the form having all details like, duration of the internship, branch, etc. I got an NOC from my college addressing, its General Manager and send them. One thing I would like to tell you, that it will be better if you can find contacts there, as they will prefer someone more, who is having contacts with someone working there. There was no stipend; I opted for 8 weeks of internship you can opt for 4 weeks, 6 weeks depending on your wish.Student after 4th and 6th semester can apply for this internship, at various BHEL centers located at different places in India like Bhopal, Trichy, Delhi, Jhansi. Well, there is no as such transparency in its application procedure, you just need to issue an NOC (No Objection Certificate) addressing it’s General Manager from your college and send it to its HRD department.

InternFeel: How competitive was the selection process? According to you, which qualities have helped you have an edge in the selection process? Also, what were the key things that selectors were looking for?

Ekta Yadav: The selection was not so tough, one can easily get an internship there if, and they are having good communication skills and basic knowledge of their core subjects.

InternFeel: Could you please highlight the work/research you carried out during your internship period?

Ekta Yadav: In starting, the groups were formed for the industrial visit, (generally the group is of four students) we were having an industrial visit, which involves the overview of all the departments, their work and much more. In these days, you can explore about the company as much as you want. If you have confusions, doubt related to anything, then you need to ask them. They won’t goanna tell you by their own, as they are already busy in their own work. After that I was assigned a project related to my field i.e. in their electronics lab under Sr. Engineer Mr. Vijay Verma. Actually, PLC and CNC machines are used very widely there, so the general project is done on these machines only for electronics student, but I chose SENSORS as my project. In fact, sensors are also very much used theirs in ovens used for transformers. I used to sit in the electronics lab and went at breakdowns of various machines to learn more and successfully completed my project with excellent remark given by them on their issued certificate for my completion of the project.

InternFeel: Can you give us interesting details about your experience – good and bad?

Ekta Yadav: I had a great time there; it was among best experiences of my life. I learned a lot there regarding academic as well as interpersonal skills. I won’t say that I am having any bad experience about there, in fact, it was memorable. People out there were very good either they are Workers, Engineers or General Managers. If anyone is going, then they will be going to have a great time there except, the weather there as there was so hot at that time, but I think you can manage for yourself to have a new experience in your lifeJ.

InternFeel: How do you think this internship has helped you grow? In other words, what are your key takeaways from the internship?

Ekta Yadav: BHEL Jhansi is mainly for Electrical TRANSFORMERS and LOCOMOTIVES ENGINES so as an engineering student there was a lot to learn. There I got to know how various transformers work and how they get manufactured; I also learned how to men these machines. Apart from studies, I made lots of good friends there from different places, and in fact, I am now, in contact with them too, had a great time with all people out there, so basically it was fun and learning both.

InternFeel: Has this internship had a decision altering impact on your career? Do you now think of a different future path as compared to before doing the internship?

Ekta Yadav: Yes, definitely this decision has an impact on my career, I got to know the job of engineers presents there, as I also want to join in PSU’s after my graduation, so it was more learning experience for me in every aspect.

InternFeel: Lastly, do you have any words of advice or caution for students aspiring for this internship and reading this piece?

Ekta Yadav: I would like to say to all those people who are reading this out, that, you need to be dedicated to your work irrespective of your position or works. Wherever you do a work, either in college or during your internship, do your job at your fullest and enjoy every new experience in your life to it’s fullest as every experience and learning in your life leads to an improvised you. ALL THE VERY BEST FOR YOUR FUTURE

Rating this internship will not be fair to anyone, as it differs from person to person, what they feel and learned by new opportunities in their life but if I  have to rate then, I would say it was  9 on 10
